Hi, I'm Sarah.

I'm a lawyer who taught herself to build software with AI. I'm here to get you over the same first hurdle someone once got me over.

A year and a bit ago, I thought software was something other people made. I used AI to ask questions and tidy up my writing, but building something that looked like real software felt completely out of reach. My computer scientist husband would be tapping away at a screen full of green text, and I'd think: that's tech, and tech isn't for me.

I don't think that block is about ability. It's that nobody ever showed us it was for us.

When I left law to start a legal tech company, I took my collection of ideas and went looking for someone technical to build them. Instead, my husband sat me down and got me over the first hurdle himself. That was all it took. Today I build and ship everything in that startup. You can see what I'm up to over at nimbletech.uk.

Why this exists

Plenty of people, especially in law, show off what they've built with AI. Almost nobody teaches ordinary, non-technical people how to actually do it. So that's what We Can Build is: clear, friendly, build-along tutorials that take you from "I just chat to AI sometimes" to building real tools you run yourself.

Who it's for

Smart, busy people who were never made to feel that software was for them. You don't need to code, and you don't need to want to become an engineer. You just want tools that make your work or your life a little easier.

Where this might start

I'm still figuring out the right shape for the series, so don't hold me to anything yet. The big one I have in mind is a passive time recording tool: something that sits on your laptop, notices what you're working on, and writes up your time for you. Whether that's the first build or a later one, the code will be free either way. We might start somewhere smaller and friendlier and work up. I'll figure it out in the open.
